Singapore (Ride Report)

Day 303

Crossing the causeway over to Singapore is a little hairy in the “motosikal” lane, and finding the route to the city not straightforward. I’m glad not to have done this last night. Singapore is clean, with lots of rules signed everywhere, and not cheap especially compared to the last dozen countries I’ve been in. There’s a helmet law here (of course there is), but I relax a little when I see only about 10% of the locals are helmetted.

I spend the evening with an ex-collleague who relocated to the Singapore office a couple of years ago.

Day 304

A bit of a hiccup. The plan was to take the ferry to Batam Island, then the overnight ferry to Jakarta. The second ferry is showing fully booked, though it’s not clear if this is a website cock-up as only one ferry is shown for the next fortnight, and occasionally it shows seats/different dates. However, I don’t want to spend a day and S$57 ferry only to get stuck in Batam. Spencer has booked a flight. Ambera is going to fly back to China anyway, leaving her bike here and continuing in a couple of weeks time. Josh is crossing at Malacca.

My preferred option is to cycle back to Malacca, cross to West Indonesia and cycle to Jakarta.
